It may seem like a simple 7- yard completion from Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm to a receiver.

But it’s more than that.

Unsurprisingly, Fromm wants to hit his slot #16 on the slant into that wide open middle. Safeties back deep & running the other direction, everyone else preoccupied in man, that could be a huge play. Jake’s head and feet are pointed there, and he’s cocking back to throw. pic.twitter.com/94iuuRBQkM

It’s not like Fromm stared it down, waiting to find out what would happen. He intuited/anticipated it, pulled the ball back down, re-loaded for the short throw under off man coverage to the same side. Lots of elements here: film study on coverage expectations, pre- and post-snap reads, knowing what to prioritize vs certain looks, fast intuition to sense your preference isn’t there, decisiveness, physical coordination for quick reload, arm talent to get it there hot & accurate.

Even taking aside the slant, progressing to 2nd option w/ the tight window, Fromm’s decisiveness (which saved time) & velocity (which saved time) gave the receiver enough window he legit could’ve popped free from the tackler and run after the catch, like a Courtland Sutton.

And this is why a lot of folks will look at plays made by Tua Tagovailoa and Jake Fromm, and continue to say, well gosh that looked easy. And yet they’ll continue to make them, and other quarterbacks won’t. @3YardsPerCarry @5ReasonsSports
