A number of Liverpool players are up for grabs in the summer, along with long serving duo Daniel Agger and Lucas Leiva, according to reports in England.
Brendan Rodgers will let go FIFTEEN players this transfer window as he prepares to raise funds to sign top quality players that can compete on both domestic and European fronts. The most high profile name on the list is club vice-captain Daniel Agger, who has lost his place to Mamadou Sakho after a series of injuries and poor form.
Rodgers is in the hunt of a centre-back, with Steven Caulker available for a cut price deal, and after Cardiff City were relegated, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will bid for him. Liverpool want more than £12 million for the Danish international, according to Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph. There will be no short of admirers for the Danish international having previously linked with Barcelona and Manchester City.
Lucas Leiva is also expected to be sold after losing his place to skipper Steven Gerrard who has established himself as a holding midfielder. The Brazilian will be retained as a squad player if he wants, but the player wants to play more regularly and might leave Anfield.
Pepe Reina is expected to sign for Napoli, after Rodgers publicly criticized him for writing a farewell letter to the fans. Liverpool will be demanding £4 million for him, if Napoli decide not to sign him permanently.
Fabio Borini, Oussama Assaidi and Suso have returned from loan, but face a stiff competition for a starting berth and might be sold. Assaidi will be allowed to sign for Stoke City if a fee is agreed. Spanish duo Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto have failed to impress and will be looking for a new club as well.
Kolo Toure, Martin Kelly, Jack Robinson, Sebastián Coates and Conor Coady are few of the fringe players Liverpool will be looking to sell to generate funds, according to The Times.
Meanwhile, Liverpool fans will be pleased to hear Luis Suarez denying reports of a possible Anfield exit. Suarez was in Spain for a promotional event, where he asked to comment on his future and Real Madrid transfer link. He said:
‘I have a contract with Liverpool, everything else is speculation. You know how the press is with their speculations. I know what I want and that’s all that matters.”
