AC Milan are set to beat out the likes of Chelsea and Inter Milan for young Thiago Silva.
The 24-year old Brazilian center back is set to undergo a medical and pen a deal with his new club next week, according to his agent Paulo Tonieto and AC Milan’s Adriano Galliani.
Silva, who has two caps for the Brazilian national team and was part of Brazil’s Olympic squad in the summer, is making his return to European football after unsuccessful spells with Porto and Dynamo Moscow in 2004 and 2005. Since then, he’s rebuilt his career at Fluminense and developed into a player coveted by some of the best of the best.
It appeared to be a tug-of-war between the Milan giants, and recent speculation made it appear that Inter Milan actually had won the race for him. However, it appears that their bitter rivals have come out the victor. Silva may be looked at to provide depth in defense for the Rossoneri, and he should challenge for a regular place in the starting lineup before long, so he’ll have plenty of opportunities to have the kind of success that eluded him in his first go-round in Europe.
