Alan Shearer has highlighted Tottenham’s major weaknesses that were exposed against Leicester City.
The Foxes were beaten 3-1 but they performed admirably. On another day, they could have easily taken something from the game.
Shearer believes that Pochettino needs to improve his full back positions.
He said: “I think Leicester looked and identified the full-backs positions as weaknesses for Tottenham and areas they could exploit. They knew [Kieran] Trippier and [Danny] Rose were going to play high, give Tottenham the width, and Trippier did not get inside to cover. Poor positioning. Quick ball through, in behind the full-back position. Should do better.”
The likes of Trippier and Rose bombed forward to give the side more width but they left spaces in behind for the Leicester City attackers to exploit.
With the games against Dortmund, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City coming up, Pochettino will have to find out a solution soon or his side could be punished against the top teams.
Spurs are very much in the title race and they will need to sort out their major weakness if they are to keep up with Liverpool and Manchester City.
It will be interesting to see how Pochettino plugs these gaps without any new signings. It seems that the Argentine will have to switch his tactics in order to provide more cover for his full backs.
