Antonio Conte wants to work with Arturo Vidal again

Antonio Conte wants to work with Arturo Vidal again

Nov 2, 2024 3:17 AM

Italy manager and the most likely would-be-next-Chelsea-manager Antonio Conte has expressed his desire to work with Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal again.

Conte, who enjoyed three successful seasons with Juventus and coached Vidal from 2011 to 2014, insists that he would love to work with the Chilean again. The Italian has confirmed that he will step down from his Italy managerial role but remains tight-lipped on his future plans. However, he is the clear front-runner for the Chelsea job.

Recently, Vidal, who plays for Bayern Munich, has been linked with a move to Chelsea. The Chilean responded to a question about the possibility of a reunion with his former manager by saying: “if I go to war I would take Conte with me – we will see what happens”.

Conte has hailed him as an amazing player, and says he would love to work with him again.

“Arturo Vidal said he’d take me to war with him I’d take Vidal too. He’s an amazing player. I must admit at Juve, I found him hard to fit in,” said Conte as quoted by Sky Sports.

“In my head, I wanted to play a 4-2-4 and 4-4-2, but seeing the intensity of Vidal getting up and down the pitch, I switched to 4-3-3 which then transformed into 3-5-2.

“He has extraordinary physical and technical attributes, if I get to coach him a little more it’d be fantastic. I want him on all my teams.”

Chelsea are looking to reinforce their midfield next summer and Conte is expected to bring in few players of his choice. If the widespread reports are to be believed, Conte is looking to sign two midfielders from AS Roma: Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic.

Vidal is a great player and would improve any team in the world. Conte would love to have him in the Chelsea squad, but it all depends on whether Bayern want to sell him or not. The Chilean would cost around €37m, per transfermarkt, and it remains to be seen whether they make any offer for him or not in the summer.
