Germany international Julian Draxler has been attracting interests from top Premier League clubs for some time now. The 20-year-old has been reportedly linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea in the English press for more than one occasions, while back in October, I wrote, why Arsenal are favourite to land the German star.
In that article, I mentioned that, Mesut Ozil could be one of the reasons why Arsenal should out-muscle other suitors, especially Chelsea. Ever since, the German star joined the Gunners from Real Madrid in the summer for a record transfer fee, the profile of Arsenal in Germany has been raised and thereby, any rising star in Germany are naturally getting linked with the North London club.
Now, Draxler, who recently revealed his ambitions of playing for a Premier League club, has dropped further hints of his desire to move to Arsenal. In a recent interview, he insisted that he has been in conversations with Arsenal’s German duo Ozil and Per Mertesacker, and both have only nicer things to say about the club.
“Arsenal is a very nice team. I sometimes speak to Mesut or Per about the club and they’ve only good words,” Draxler was quoted in The Daily Star.
“They always have very young players and play attractive football. But I’d better not speak too much because I think the people at Schalke would not like to hear it.”
It is clearly evident that senior players like Ozil and Mertesacker could play a pivotal role in convincing him to join the Gunners, and of all the interested parties, the Gunners are in favourable position to land him. His parent club, Schalke 04 would be willing to sell him for a handsome fee as well, but whether Arsene Wenger at all needs him is a different question.
