Argentina 4-1 South Korea

2010 FIFA World Cup

17 June 2010

Argentina would move close to clinching first place in Group B with a 4-1 win over South Korea on Thursday.

The scoring would open with a bit of luck for Argentina as a cross deflected of South Korea’s Park Chu-Young in the 16th minute for an own goal. About 17 minutes later, Argentina extended their lead to 2-0 with a Gonzalo Higuain header. It would be the first of three goals for the Real Madrid player.

Argentina did have a few problems including a defensive lapse that allowed South Korea’s Lee Chung-Yong to score in stoppage time of the first half.

The second half saw both teams get chances including a great chance for South Korea to level the match but they couldn’t convert. Finally, in the 76th minute, Higuain scored his second of the match to give Argentina a 3-1 lead. He would add another in the 80th minute to make it 4-1 and give his side the three points.
