Arsenal and Liverpool could sign French striker for free

Oct 7, 2024 12:24 AM

André-Pierre Gignac has been in sparkling form this season. The 28-year-old French striker has scored 10 league goals already, but it seems like Marseille are preparing life without him next summer.

The French striker’s contract at the club expires next June as a result he will become a free agent should he not extend his contract by this time. Le 10 Sport claims that the Frenchman is not willing to sign a new deal, while Marseille have already started looking for options elsewhere to replace him.

Gignac’s agent Christopher Hutteau previously hinted that his client could leave the French outfit to join any big Premier League club.

He told L’Equipe: “Given the fact that he is not very old, he has a real market value.

“This is a striker with a relatively atypical profile, responsive to the physical challenge, the archetypal player who can succeed in a big club.

“He can play in England, Arsenal or Liverpool, no problem. For me, it is (his real value) between 12 and 15 million euros.”

Gignac currently earns €4m a season with Marseille, but the French club won’t be offering such amount if he accepts a new deal. In such a scenario, Marseille looking likely to lose the player they signed for €16m, while Gignac would be able to sign a pre-contract with any foreign club in the January transfer window.

Arsenal and Liverpool are thought to be interested in him, and given an option the French striker would likely to join the Gunners.
