Italian giants Inter Milan are putting serious effort into signing Real Madrid striker and Arsenal target Alvaro Morata, with the Serie A side reportedly starting a bidding war with a bid of around €18m.
We reported in March that Inter Milan ready to challenge Arsenal for Morata’s signature; and now Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has confirmed that Inter have submitted a bid in the region of €18m, though still short enough of Madrid’s valuation.
The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest prospects of Madrid, but has failed to make strong impression this season under Carlo Ancelotti, managing only one league start so far.
The Spanish U-21 international was previously linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, as a part of Gareth Bale’s record transfer, but Morata has always heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.
There were reports that Arsenal were close to landing him up on loan with a view to make the deal permanent, while the Spanish media claimed that agent of the player was spotted in London as well.
Spanish newspaper Marca speculated that Liverpool are also keen on Morata, while ESPN suggested that Manchester United could also make a shock bid for the talented youngster.
Reputed Spanish journalist Guillem Balague further claimed in February that Arsenal were in pole position to sign the Spaniard, should Arsene Wenger agree his transfer fee.
And that is very important here. Real Madrid won’t send him on loan, rather Los Blancos are looking to sell him permanently, asking for a fee in the region of €25m.
It seems like Inter Milan are aware of the strong competition for the striker and that’s why they’re moving early for him.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal follow up their interest and match the offer for Morata. If they don’t, then another top transfer target will slip though their fingers!
