Arsenal legend Ian Wright has slammed Manchester United fans for the abuse he received over criticising Wayne Rooney for a dive to win a penalty against Preston in the FA Cup this week.

The former Gunners idol believes he now feels vindicated at accusing the England captain of going down when he should have stayed on his feet during the 3-1 comeback win after the Preston goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann revealed Rooney apologised to him after the game.

“After the game Rooney told me: ‘Sorry, it was my chance to get a penalty. I had to use that’,” Stuckmann is quoted as saying in The Sun.

The 33-year-old also undermined England boss Roy Hodgson’s claim that Rooney did not dive.

“I say it clear: That was no penalty,” he added. “I also believe that if the situation had happened the other way around, one of our strikers against the United keeper, the ref wouldn’t have given the penalty. I have no doubt about that.”

And now Wright has stuck the boot into United fans for questioning his observation that Rooney had dived. “I see Wayne Rooney’s apologised for the other night. To all the United fans who blew up my feed errrrr,I’m not seeing ya! silence is golden,” he wrote on Twitter.
