Arsene Wenger has admitted in his post-match interview after Arsenal’s 3-4 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League that he would be looking for reinforcement before the transfer window closes.
The general feeling among the Arsenal supporter is that a top class striker is required. Throughout the summer, Arsenal have tried to sign a quality striker and have had shown reported interests on players like Jamie Vardy, Gonzalo Higuain and Mauro Icardi.
Having failed to sign either of the three strikers, Wenger has shifted his attention towards signing a goal-scoring attacking midfielder with Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez is reportedly on top of his transfer list.
Leicester have made it clear that Mahrez will not be sold this summer as the Foxes may find hard to replace him with a quality player so late in the transfer window.
According to reports from The Telegraph, Arsenal have set their sight on Real Madrid’s playmaker James Rodriguez, who has dropped down the pecking orders at Los Blancos.
Manchester United have had reportedly explored the possibility of signing the Colombian this summer, but it is unclear whether they retain the same interest now following the arrival of Paul Pogba.
Rodriguez admitted recently in an interview that there is a €85m offer on the table for him, but he is not keen to leave Madrid anytime soon.
“I’m going to stay with Real Madrid; I’m going to triumph here. I know the club have had an offer of €85 million for me, but I’m not leaving.”
Rodriguez has failed to impress Zinedine Zidane, the Madrid manager, and Los Blancos are willing to sell him if the offer is right. He will be a great signing for the Gunners but will Wenger spend big for him remains to be seen.
