Arsenal target Julian Draxler close to joining Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain are closing in on a mega-money deal to sign Wolfsburg forward Julian Draxler.

The German International, who remains a long-term target for Premier League giants Arsenal, is in search of a new club this summer after publicly declaring his desire to leave Wolfsburg last month.

The Wolves, who signed the 22-year-old only last summer from fellow Bundesliga side Schalke 04 for a club record £28.9 million, claimed last month that the highly-rated attacker is ‘100 per cent’ staying at the Volkswagen Arena before Draxler accused the club of disclosing false reports.

In an interview with the Bild, Draxler said: “The situation with me is that I made it clear to (head coach) Dieter Hecking after we were knocked out of Euro 2016 in the semi-final that I would like to leave Wolfsburg.

“The coach has known about this for three weeks. It’s very surprising that they have been talking about me to the media for weeks.”

Draxler was reportedly close to join Juventus last summer but turned down the offer after being given assurances by Wolfsburg that he would be allowed to leave, should a big club offer the chance to sign him.

While, the German remains a player in demand in the current transfer market after another successful campaign with Wolfsburg. The young attacker scored five goals and provided another five assists in 19 Bundesliga starts last season and was also part of Germany’s squad for the Euro 16.

Arsenal are still thought to be interested to sign Draxler to bolster Arsene Wenger’s attacking options but the Gunners remain reluctant to meet Wolfsburg’s valuation for the forward.

The Bundesliga outfit are hopeful of securing over £40 million for Draxler’s sale and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly willing to complete the mega-money deal for the 22-year-old to prepare for life after the departure of star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who joined Man Utd earlier this summer on a free transfer.

The French champions are keen to strengthen their attack in the club’s bid to secure a record fifth-straight Ligue 1 title this season and Julian Draxler fits the bill for Unai Emery and PSG.
