Well, it hasn’t taken long, has it The raid on newly crowned Premier League Champions Leicester City is truly under way as French media outlet France Football reports that Arsenal have set their sights on signing French midfielder N’golo Kante. The 25 year old has had a stunning season for Claudio Ranieri’s side and was a key member in Leicester’s historic Premier League triumph.
The report from France Football states that the Gunners have already held meetings with the player in London in order to complete the deal before the start of the Euros in France from June 10. Kante who arrived for €9m to the King Power stadium from Ligue 1 side Caen reportedly has a transfer release clause in his contract. Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in the player but as of now Arsenal are leading the race for the Frenchman.
In fact the report has stated Arsene Wenger heaping praise on Kante, “For me, N’Golo Kanté is one of the players of the year in the Premier League. I can not tell you anything now. He is under contract with Leicester. But I’m sure if Leicester wants to sell it, they will find buyers.”
Kante would no doubt be a fantastic addition for Arsenal given the North London side’s frailties in the middle of the park. Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are certainly not appealing options if Wenger realistically aims to challenge for the Premier League title next year, while Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla have consistently struggles with injuries.
Kante exactly fits the bill with his immense work rate and willingness to run that extra mile to regain possession. Moreover, he would seamlessly fit in the Arsenal starting eleven having already proven his mettle with his dynamic role in midfield for Leicester this season.
