As we head into the final group matches all of the English sides know their fate.
Sporting Index punters that bought Liverpool’s outright spread will have been hugely disappointed to see the five-time champions bow out early. However, those that bought the spread of any of the remaining English sides have plenty to look forward to as we approach the business end of the competition while those spread bettors looking to buy the Reds match win index against Fiorentina will be desperate to see the team end their Champions League adventure on a positive note.
Chelsea have already guaranteed group top spot so the match against Apoel Nicosia is somewhat of a dead-rubber. But those that have bought Chelsea’s win index spread will be confident of another victory as the Blues have been in excellent form at Stamford Bridge. They have won their last four matches in all competitions and have only dropped two points in Europe.
Supremacy spread punters should also be aware that Carlo Ancelotti’s men have not conceded at home since the opening day of the season, while Apoel Nicosia have not yet won a match in this season’s Champions League. Player performance spread punters will have noted Didier Drogba’s hot form and buyers of his goal minutes spread will hope he can repeat his Arsenal brace in this game.
Manchester United lost to Besiktas last time to end their four-and-a-half year undefeated European run at Old Trafford, to the shock of those that bought their win index spread. Sir Alex’s trust in his youngsters backfired but he still only needs a point to finish top of the group. A
lthough United have conceded five goals at Old Trafford in this season’s competition they have been very tight at the back on their travels. Spread sellers of total goals will be hoping United can continue their miserly record on the road, having kept a clean sheet in both previous away matches.
Arsenal have comfortably qualified from group H which will have pleased buyers of their outright spread, currently at 36-39pts (100pts to winner, 75 to runner-up, 50pts to losing semi-finalist etc). Those spread punters thinking of getting involved in the bookings supremacy market should note that Arsenal have only received five yellow cards in their five European group games this season, while the same five matches have produced an average 41-point index make-up. Buyers and sellers of the total bookings index spread should also take note.
Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool must now prepare for life in the Europa League and spread punters selling their win index for their final match will take delight in opponents Fiorentina’s 12-from-15-points record. However, spread buyers confident of a Liverpool win at Anfield will point out that the Italians’ loss came in their opening match, away to Lyon. The Merseysiders have only scored four times this campaign but buyers of total goals will take heart that Fiorentina have netted 12 times, averaging 2.4 goals per game.
