According to reports, Blackburn could help shore up their back line in January by making a move for former Liverpool and Fulham right back Steve Finnan.
Defense is one of several areas that Blackburn must address in January, as they’ve allowed a league-worst 28 goals in 16 league matches. Rovers have already been linked with a move for Norwegian defender Tore Reginiussen, but while he looks to be more of a future impact player, Finnan would provide immediate assistance to a unit that definitely needs it.
The 32-year old left Liverpool at the end of the summer as part of the deal that brought Albert Riera to England, but his first few months at Espanyol haven’t gone particularly well. He’s been limited to only a handful of appearances thanks to injury, and he’s currently sidelined for a few weeks due to a right leg injury.
The opportunity to quickly return to England and the Premier League would no doubt appeal to the Irish international, as he had several successful years with Fulham and then with Liverpool, and he would likely be available for a minimal fee.
