Brazil 2-1 North Korea

2010 FIFA World Cup

15 June 2010

Brazil failed to impress in their opening stage match as North Korea made it a much closer match than expected.

They were unable to score in the first half as North Korea did a good job of staying organized and keeping their shape. This was combined with the inability of Brazil to get players wide to stretch the defense and create space inside the box.

Eventually in the second half, Brazil would slowly open the match and grab the lead. Maicon would get into the box on the wing and send a shot from a tough angle into the back of the net. It appeared like the Brazilian was going to send a cross in the box but instead found space as the goalkeeper was slightly off his line.

The next goal was scored by Elano who received a great pass from Robinho in the 72nd minute to make it 2-0. At this point, it seemed Brazil would break open the match with more goals but North Korea would keep it close. They would cut the lead in half in the 89th minute as Ji Yun-Nam in the 89th minute.

That’s as close as North Korea would get as the match remained 2-1 at the end of the match. It was far from convincing for Brazil but they did get the three points which is the most important thing.
