Buffalo Bills Lose Another Key Piece, Dawson Knox Set For Surgery

Buffalo Bills Lose Another Key Piece, Dawson Knox Set For Surgery

Oct 21, 2024 11:06 AM

The Buffalo Bills have had a rollercoaster of a season so far. Their opening night loss to the New York Jets raised eyebrows across the league, but they were able to right the ship with three straight dominant wins to bring their record to 3-1. But they’ve gone back to being questioned as a Super Bowl contender after lackluster performances in their last three contests, and things might get even more difficult due to injury concerns.

The injury bug has already hit the Bills hard this season. They have already lost two key pieces on their defense in Tre’Davious White and Matt Milano, who will both likely miss the remainder of the year. Their offense has been struck, too, as backup running back Damien Harris was placed on IR last week, but they suffered an even bigger loss in Week 7.

The Bills were 9.5 point favorites for Sunday’s game against the Patriots, as it appeared to be a potential rebound game for Josh Allen and company, who had struggled over the last couple of weeks. But Mac Jones and Bill Belichick had other plans, and New England was able to pull off an upset victory in a game that featured a thrilling fourth quarter.

But as Josh Allen was talking about how “bleak” things feel around the team, tight end Dawson Knox was being evaluated for a wrist injury that he sustained in the game. On Monday, head coach Sean McDermott revealed that Knox will need to have the wrist surgically repaired, and that he is out indefinitely.

Kincaid Has Been The Feature TE For Buffalo So Far

It is a tough blow to the team, though Knox is no longer the leading tight end for the Buffalo Bills, as he had been in every season since 2019. Rookie Dalton Kincaid has caught 25 passes to Knox’s 15 despite playing in one fewer game, and has 91 more receiving yards. These numbers come despite Knox playing in 68% of the offensive snaps, compared to Kincaid’s 60%.

Still, Knox is one of Allen’s most reliable targets, especially in crucial third-down situations when his sure-handed abilities come in handy. Kincaid will obviously get more work in with Knox missing time, but there aren’t many other options for the Buffalo Bills at the tight end position. Look for them to sign someone this week or pull up a practice squad player in order to fill the void.
