Manchester United’s failure to reach the knockout rounds of the Champions League is a huge story. For two major reasons.
First, very few had expected this result as United were pitted in an easy group. And up to Match Day 4, it didn’t look it United will drop out in this manner.
The second point is more important – will United continue with their current manager Louis van Gaal
For a while, forget about the financial part. It is indeed a major factor though, but there is another issue to discuss.
Van Gaal himself has said that United will be the last club he will manage. He has a contract till 2017 and United hierarchy fully backs him to continue at the club.
Now, should United continue with the Dutchman, the Red Devils could miss out on two excellent managers – Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti – both could be available next summer.
Guardiola hasn’t renewed his contract with Bayern Munich and could be available for hire next summer. Ancelotti, the three times Champions League winner, is jobless at the moment, and the Italian is looking to return to an elite European club.
According to reports from Tuttosport, Ancelotti wants to manage Manchester United and the former Chelsea boss is just waiting for an important call from the Old Trafford telephone desk.
