With 13 minutes to go in yesterday’s games, things were looking oh so sweet for the relegation zone trio. Palace were winning at Elland Road, Boro were heading for a creditable draw at the Ricoh Arena. Most suprising of all, Preston were 1-0 up at Cardiff.
It then went wrong for all three of them. Oh well, it never rains etc. etc.
Sucker Punch of the Day No.1 – Andy Keogh’s 94th minute header
After having survived 24 previous attempts at their goal, it looked like Preston had done enough for a famous win. Ferguson now has to somehow pick his side up for a crucial clash with fellow strugglers Ipswich.
Sucker punch of the weekend No.2 – Becchio’s 2 minute double
Palace do not like Yorkshire. It was only a couple of weeks ago that they threw away a winning position in Sheffield. Same story again with Luciano Becchio the villain. Disappointing as it must be, I agree with George Burley that his side are indeed on the up.
Game of the weekend – Watford 3 Leicester 2
A 5 goal thriller at Vicarage Road, with Danny Graham grabbing the late winner. I agree with Malky Mackay that the result says an awful lot about the courage of his young side. They must have been shattered after throwing away a 2-0 lead, so it was a fine effort to come back and win the game. I expect them to have a real go at Loftus Road on Friday.
A broken record – Derby’s 6 match winning streak at home
2 up inside 13 minutes, Norwich were making a mockery of fortress Pride Park. It became a much tighter affair after that but the Canaries got the result and left themselves just 4 points behind Cardiff.
Player of the Weekend – Swansea’s Scottish Striker
Craig Beattie has often promised much without a great return of goals. He picked up 2 at Portman Road to turn the game around. With his physical presence, an in-form Beattie will add a new dimension to the Swans’ front-line.
