With Asmir Begovic all set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, Chelsea are moving quickly to replace him with AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez.
The Serie A giants have no short of options in the goalkeeping department and they are set to allow shot-stopper Diego Lopez to join Chelsea.
According to reports from Gazzetta World, Chelsea have shown a strong interest in the Spanish goalkeeper and met with the player’s agent last week to finalise a deal.
Begovic did a decent job last season but new manager Antonio Conte is looking for a solid backup to Belgium star Thibaut Courtois and has identified Lopez as a perfect candidate. If the reports are to be believed, Begovic is likely to continue in the Premier League with Everton could be his next possible destination.
Lopez joined AC Milan from Real Madrid in 2014 but the 34-year-old has dropped down the pecking orders at the club behind young goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who recorded 10 clean sheets in 30 league matches last season.
The youngster is all set to continue as Rossoneri’s first choice goalkeeper for the 2016/17 season. In addition, AC Milan will bring back Brazilan shot-stopper Gabriel who spent last season on loan at Napoli. Lopez would be a surplus to requirements at San Siro and hence a move to Chelsea makes sense.
