A late header in the extra time from Thiago Silva was enough to knock Chelsea out of the Champions League on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho said his team couldn’t cope up with the pressure, but 10-men PSG fought bravely till the end and progressed to the quarter-finals courtesy of the away goal rules.
We have covered an in-depth analysis of the match and the major talking points in our site. There’s hardly anything new I can add here.
PSG were simply brilliant with their set-pieces. Both of their goals came from corners, but they were other instances, where they had created dangerous chances from set-piece deliveries.
For instance, prior to Thiago Silva’s goal, the Brazilian managed a cracking header on target, only to be denied by the outstretching gloves of Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea’s poor defending also played a part, but credit should go to PSG for the way they made full use of the defensive lapses.

PSG registered 11 corners last night and 5.75 corners on an average in the Champions League this campaign. Out of which, they have managed 20% of ‘dangerous events’ from those corners, which is second best in the Champions League.
In fact, as you can see, PSG have a good conversion record from corners – against Chelsea the Parisiens converted 18% of the chances into goals, while have a 6.5% conversion rate from corners in the Champions League.
