Chelsea likely to make move for €75m world class midfielder

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is expecting to make one or two more signings before the transfer window closes.

“We are not in trouble,” Mourinho said as quoted by The Times. “But for a perfect shape of the squad, one more player would give us a good balance.”

Chelsea have little hope in luring John Stones from Everton, after the club’s chairman Bill Kenwright had issued a statement on Thursday night clarifying that Stones is not for sale.

The Blues have had three – £20m, £26m and £30m bids – rejected already, and it seems Chelsea have given up on the chase.

If the reports are to be believed, Chelsea are trying to sign at least one central defender before the window closes. The Blues are reportedly in talks with Russian club Zenit to sign Ezequiel Garay.

The Premier League champions are also considering making an offer for £15m rated Monaco defender, Aymen Abdennour.

Furthermore, Chinese defender, Zhang Linpeng, has received a formal invitation from Chelsea, although it would represent a little consolation in Mourinho’s troubled pursuit of John Stones.

The big money transfer deadline day signing is more likely to be the purchase of Paul Pogba from Juventus.

Earlier this month, Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Chelsea had offered a €75m bid for Pogba, but Juventus aren’t keen to sell, especially after the departures of three high profile players in Pirlo, Vidal and Tevez.

Juventus have already signed Juan Cuadrado from Chelsea in the summer, albeit on loan, and it remains to be seen, whether any further deal is possible between the two clubs in the next four days.

Chelsea are mainly facing two big obstacles in their attempt to sign Pogba. Juventus want the £72.5m incomes from Pogba’s planned sale to be reflected in their balance books in a year’s time and not now.

Furthermore, the Bianconeri have a lucrative deal in place to sell Pogba to Barcelona. The Catalan giants are expected to make a formal move for the French world class midfielder once their transfer ban gets lifted.
