Terry has been at Chelsea for his entire career and won four league titles and a Champions League with the Blues. His contract is set to expire at the end of the season while in January he revealed that his contract won’t be renewed by the club.

The 35-year-old has since expressed his desire to stay but with new manager Antonio Conte not arriving before the Euro 2016 gets over his future came under a lot of speculation.

He told Brondby’s TV channel earlier this week: “I still want to play for a couple more years, hopefully that’s at Chelsea. I’m a Chelsea player and that has been my club since the age of 14. I love Chelsea.”

Terry will miss Chelsea’s final home game of the season with Leicester on Sunday through suspension after he picked up a red card against Sunderland, which appeared to be his final game for the Blues.

In the end of the season award ceremony on Friday, Chelsea FC were thought to have been planning a special program where tributes would be given in honour of their skipper. However, it seems, those are not required at the moment, with Terry in all probability will sign a new deal at the club for at least one more season.

A Chelsea spokesman announced the news on Friday that Terry and his agent met with director Marina Granovskaia and chairman Bruce Buck for talks over his future this week, and the former England skipper was given a 12-month contract extension.

“Marina Granovskaia and Bruce Buck met with John and his agent this week and offered him a one-year contract extension,” the spokesperson said as quoted by ESPN.

“With it coming so late in the season, this is a big decision for John and his family and it is something that they are now considering.”

Terry has been offered significantly reduced terms, but he won’t mind agreeing to it, as he voiced his preference to stay at the Bridge until the end of his footballing career.
