Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly has been a target for Premier League giants Chelsea all summer.
The Senegal international was one of the best defenders in Serie A last season and has attracted the interest of Antonio Conte. The Italian is determined to strengthen his defence this summer and has therefore submitted a mega bid for the Napoli star.
Italian newspaper Il Messagero are reporting that Chelsea have submitted a 50 million Euros bid for the defender now.
Earlier this summer, there were reports that the player is keen on leaving Napoli and does not intend to sign a new deal with the club. His agent confirmed that the player has already decided to leave because of economic reasons and Chelsea have enough time to complete the transfer. Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has insisted that the player won’t be sold, but it seems that Chelsea are not ready to give up just yet.
Koulibaly was a target for Bayern Munich and Manchester United as well. Daily Mirror reported earlier this summer that the Old Trafford outfit scouted the player heavily last season.
If the report about Chelsea’s recent offer is true, Napoli might be forced to sell the player after all. Despite Koulibaly’s quality, the player is not worth 50 million Euros and Chelsea are paying over the odds for the Senegalese.
As for Chelsea, if they do manage to land him, it will be a quality addition to an ageing backline. The likes of Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic have all regressed and getting someone like Koulibaly could be vital as far as Chelsea’s title chances are concerned.
