Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was disappointed, furious and angry with his side’s lackluster and insipid performance against Newcastle United at the St James’ Park on Saturday. The Portuguese claimed that he made 11 mistakes in the match that Chelsea lost 2-0 and has revealed to make few changes against Schalke 04 on Wednesday.
One of the big news coming out of the Chelsea camp is striker Fernando Torres will miss out against the German outfit. The Spaniard limped out of training and as reports from Daily Mirror; he pulled up with a muscle problem and was withdrawn to receive treatment.
It is understood that the former Liverpool star will miss out Saturday’s home clash with West Brom and Spain’s friendlies against Angola and South Africa. Short of options, Mourinho will have to rely on either of Samuel Eto’o or Demba Ba for this tie.
While Torres will miss out through injury, there are several Chelsea players who could face the axe, following their poor performance against Newcastle. Old guards – Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard – could be dropped to the bench while as per Daily Star David Luiz could also miss out.
We reported yesterday that Belgian press speculated that Eden Hazard might get the axe too, while Juan Mata’s position has also come under huge threat. In that case César Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill, Andre Schurrle and possibly Willian could be included to face Schalke on Wednesday.
