Chelsea to add another Brazilian to their ranks?

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Brazilian youngster Nathan, according to reports from The Telegraph.

The 19-year-old is considered as one of several exciting young talents in Brazil and he is now expected at Chelsea on Wednesday to discuss a £4.5m transfer move.

Reports suggest that Nathan has arrived in London for a medical after being granted permission by his present club, Atletico Paramaense, to discuss personal terms.

The youngster rose to prominence with his performances in the World U-17 Championships two years ago and can play in any of the three attacking positions – behind the striker and on both flanks.

Nathan should adapt quickly to the new conditions as he is set to link up with club’s strong Brazilian contingent, with the likes of Oscar, Willian, Ramires and Felipe Luis all in the first team squad.

The question is will he get regular game time at Chelsea

Chelsea have made a habit on signing talented young players from around the world and sending them on loan immediately. Interestingly, these players rarely get the chance to represent the first team (Thibaut Courtois is an exception) and are sold permanently after a certain period of time.

Jose Mourinho when asked about Chelsea’s young players given first team opportunities, he said recently: “If they are good enough and if they are ready.”

The problem is these young players are never “ready” for Mourinho. And certainly are not “good enough” to represent Chelsea.

Chelsea are well equipped in their forward department having world class players like Oscar, Eden Hazard, Willian, and Juan Cuadrado in their ranks. Furthermore, Mohamed Salah could be given another chance to impress next season considering how well he has played for Fiorentina on loan.

It will be difficult for young Nathan to break into the first team ahead of all these established stars, unless Mourinho finds he is “ready” and “good enough” for first team action next season.
