Chelsea are planning to launch a £30m summer bid for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, who is also a reported target of Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho is particularly unhappy with the way his team defended against PSG – failing to defend set-pieces properly, resulting in two goals and subsequent elimination from the Champions League.
The Chelsea boss said after the match: “We concede two goals in two set pieces where the organisation is clear. The markers are absolutely decided.”
Branislav Ivanovic failed to mark David Luiz properly while Thiago Silva was given a free header after John Terry mistakenly marked his own team-mate Gary Cahill in the box.
Although, Mourinho’s immediate priorities is to bounce back from the Champions League defeat and focus on the league, The Telegraph reports that the Blues are planning a move for Real Madrid defender Varane.
Mourinho signed Varane during his time at Real Madrid and wants to bring to the Frenchman to partner Kurt Zouma at the heart of Chelsea defence.
His arrival would place a big question mark over Gary Cahill’s future at the club. Chelsea skipper John Terry is expected to be given a new one-year contract at the club.
Manchester United are also thought to be interested in the 21-year-old and have been linked frequently, it remains to be seen whether the club at all make a move for him in the summer.
