Ladies Day was packed full of memorable Cheltenham day 2 results as the Festival continued. The drama and heroic performances that have become the meeting’s hallmark were in abundance once again. Rain didn’t spoil the day for a crowd in the tens of thousands.

1:30 – Ballymore Novices Hurdle Result
Position | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Sir Gerhard | Paul Townend | Willie Mullins | 3½ lengths | 8/11F |
2nd | Three Stripe Life | Davy Russell | Gordon Elliott | 9 lengths | 8/1 |
3rd | Whatdeawant | Danny Mullins | Willie Mullins | 8½ lengths | 18/1 |
Sir Gerhard made a successful step up in trip to land the Ballymore Novices Hurdle at odds-on for Willie Mullins, his 80th Festival winner. He confirmed Dublin Racing Festival form with Three Stripe Life in the first of the Cheltenham day 2 results after Journey With Me fell when held at the last.
Whatdeawant made a 1-3 for the Mullins stable on rain softened ground. The best of the British was I Am Maximus in fourth as Paul Nicholls’ Stage Star bombed out. Sir Gerhard earned an 8/1 Champion Hurdle quote with Fitzdares off the back of this success.

2:10 – Brown Advisory Novices Chase Result
Position | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | L’Homme Presse | Charlie Deutsch | Venetia Williams | 3½ lengths | 9/4F |
2nd | Ahoy Senor | Derek Fox | Lucinda Russell | 1¾ lengths | 4/1 |
3rd | Gaillard Du Mesnil | Paul Townend | Willie Mullins | 7 lengths | 11/1 |
In the Brown Advisory Novices Chase, Cheltenham day 2 results were shaped by the late withdrawal of Bravemansgame. Nicholls wouldn’t risk the race favourite on the testing ground, so L’Homme Presse took full advantage.
He made it five from five over fences under a great front-running ride from Charlie Deutsch. This was his first Festival victory and ideal going for a Venetia Williams horse. L’Homme Presse jumped well and led home a British 1-2 with Scottish raider Ahoy Senor in second.
Farouk D’Alene sent Davy Russell spilling onto the Cheltenham turf at the second last, so last season’s Ballymore second Gaillard Du Mesnil hit the frame again as the best of the Irish. If Cheltenham day 2 results are any indicator, then L’Homme Presse is a Gold Cup contender next year.

2:50 – Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle Result
Position | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Commander Of Fleet | Shane Fitzgerald [5] | Gordon Elliott | short-head | 50/1 |
2nd | Fastorslow | Darragh O’Keeffe | Martin Brassil | 5½ lengths | 18/1 |
3rd | Ashdale Bob | Jack Foley [3] | Jessica Harrington | 4¾ lengths | 14/1 |
4th | Camprond | Aidan Coleman | Philip Hobbs | 10 lengths | 10/1 |
Few horses got into the Coral Cup but Commander Of Fleet just got up under 5lb claimer Shane Fitzgerald to give Gordon Elliott his first official Festival winner in two years. Just a short-head separated this former smart bumper horse from fellow Irish raider Fastorslow with another Emerald Isle raider Ashdale Bob back in third.
This 1-2-3 for Ireland in Cheltenham day 2 results saw a 50/1 winner get it on the nod. Camprond was the best of the British back in fourth. In a typical Festival handicap, they went hard and got racing a long way out.

3:30 – Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase Result
Position | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Energumene | Paul Townend | Willie Mullins | 8½ lengths | 5/2 |
2nd | Funambule Sivola | Charlie Deutsch | Venetia Williams | 4½ lengths | 40/1 |
3rd | Envoi Allen | Rachael Blackmore | Henry De Bromhead | 12 lengths | 10/1 |
At long, long last, Mullins won the Ladies Day feature, the Queen Mother Champion Chase. Past Cheltenham results show how this race has eluded the Closutton maestro but no longer with Energumene taking full advantage of odds-on favourite Shishkin pulling up.
In a dramatic Champion Chase, the other Mullins mount Chacun Pour Soi unseated his rider in an easy lead. Funambule Sivola continued a great day for Williams chasing home Energumene with the well-backed Envoi Allen in third.
Last year’s winner Put The Kettle On was last of five to complete behind 2020 scorer Politologue with Dan Skelton withdrawing Nube Negra out. Although an anti-climax, Cheltenham day 2 results belonged to Mullins once again.

4:10 – Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase Result
Position | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Delta Work | Jack Kennedy | Gordon Elliott | ¾ of a length | 5/2F |
2nd | Tiger Roll | Davy Russell | Gordon Elliott | 21 lengths | 3/1 |
3rd | Plan Of Attack | Darragh O’Keeffe | Henry De Bromhead | 8½ lengths | 25/1 |
A successful swansong for Tiger Roll was spoiled by owner-stable companion Delta Work who got up in the closing stages to deny the dual Grand National winner a fourth Cross Country Chase. Emotional scenes swept Prestbury Park as the two Elliott and Gigginstown House Stud runners entered the winner’s enclosure together.
Just three-quarters of a length separated the pair with some 21 lengths back to another Irish raider, Plan Of Attack, in third. We may never see the likes of Tiger Roll again, but Cheltenham day 2 results show him going down fighting.

4:50 – Grand Annual Chase Result
Position | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Global Citizen | Kielan Woods | Ben Pauling | 3 lengths | 28/1 |
2nd | Andy Dufresne | Mark Walsh | Gordon Elliott | 3 lengths | 3/1F |
3rd | Frero Banbou | Charlie Deutsch | Venetia Williams | ½ a length | 6/1 |
4th | Editeur Du Gite | Joshua Moore | Gary Moore | 8 lengths | 15/2 |
Ben Pauling had his first Festival winner for five years as 10-year-old Global Citizen sprung a 28/1 surprise in the Grand Annual Chase. Prominent throughout, he acted best in the testing conditions burning off other front-runner Editeur Du Gite.
Cheltenham day 2 results show the favourite Andy Dufresne back in second but there was no reaching Global Citizen here. Frero Banbou stayed on from well off the pace into third for Williams.

5:30 – Weatherbys Champion Bumper Result
Position | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Distance | SP |
1st | Facile Vega | Patrick Mullins | Willie Mullins | 3¾ lengths | 15/8F |
2nd | American Mike | Jamie Codd | Gordon Elliott | 2½ lengths | 5/2 |
3rd | James’s Gate | Sean O’Keeffe | Willie Mullins | 2¾ lengths | 16/1 |
In the last of Cheltenham day 2 results, Facile Vega survived a drift in the betting to uphold family honour. His dam, Quevega, turned up at this Festival and won six Mares Hurdles in a row.
Despite patches of false ground being dolled off due to waterlogging, Facile Vega surged up the hill in the mud and beat main market American Vega. This was a 12th Champion Bumper win for Mullins, who also saddled James’s Gate in third.
