Chelsea duo, Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois, have been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the past.
The likes of Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid were thought to be interested in them, but a move never quite materialised last summer. Both players were thought to be frustrated after a disappointing season under José Mourinho last year. However, things are not quite the same under Antonio Conte. The Italian manager has not only improved Chelsea on the pitch, he has also lifted the spirits around the club with his passionate management.
Telegraph are now reporting that both Costa and Courtois are happy at the moment, and both are willing to sign new long-term contracts at the club. The news will come as a major boost to Conte and the Chelsea fans. Both players have been in outstanding form this season and are world-class players in their respective positions. Courtois has keptsix clean sheets in a row and Costa is thetop scorer in the Premier League with 10 goals.
Telegraph add that both players wanted to return to Spain, but Conte has persuaded them to stay at Chelsea. Apparently, Conte held private talks with Costa and Courtois when he joined Chelsea and asked them to stay put for another season, to give him a chance to turn it around.
The Blues will begin talks about a new contract during the New Year. The report also reveals that Costa’s £150,000 a week wages will rise to £200,000 a week, and Courtois’s £100,000-a-week Chelsea contract will rise to £150,000 a week.
