Manchester United have suffered a blow in their ongoing pursuit of Thomas Vermaelen after the defender agreed terms to join Barcelona from Arsenal.
The Belgium international was linked with a move to Old Trafford and the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger confirmed the Red Devils’ interest. However, the Frenchman earlier admitted that he would prefer to sell the centre-back to a foreign club.
Vermaelen has now completted his medical before his move to the Catalan club.

“Vermaelen passed his medical in Barcelona on Saturday. His transfer is subject to the completion of the normal regulatory process.”
“Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Thomas for his contribution during his time at the club and wish him well for the future,” it added.
