Cristiano Ronaldo is all set to be announced as the Ballon d’Or 2016 winner next Monday if the recent reports from the Spanish media are to be believed.
Reputed journalist Francesc Aguilar is reporting that Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten Lionel Messi to the prestigious award after a fantastic season with club and country. Mundo Deportivo‘s report claims that the winner of the prize has been chosen already.
Ronaldo won the Euro 2016 with Portugal and the Champions League with Real Madrid last year. Although the 31-year-old has regressed in the last few months, he was a key part of two successful teams and deserves the Ballon d’Or. Aguilar also claims that the winner will give an exclusive interview with France Football on Tuesday.
Messi has won the Ballon d’Or five times, which is more than any other player. However, if Aguilar’s claims are genuine, then the Argentine superstar will finish second in this year’s race. If Ronaldo wins the award on Monday, it will be his fourth time.
The Real Madrid forward scored51 goals in 48 appearances for Los Blancos last season and has already bagged12 in 16 so far this season. He has also scored13 goals in 13 appearances for Portugal in 2016.
