Gus Poyet poised to be sacked by Sunderland

Gus Poyet poised to be sacked by Sunderland

Nov 6, 2024 11:40 PM

After a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa on Saturday, Sunderland board are considering the options of sacking their manager Gus Poyet this week.

Sunderland are 17th in the league, hovering just over the relegation zone and are winless in their last seven matches. However, it’s the manner of their meek surrender against other struggling teams that has forced the board to consider this move.

Poyet his convinced that he has not lost the dressing room, however the results show otherwise. “If I did then I am living in another world,” said Poyet. “It is totally not the case.”

According to reports from The Guardian, Sunderland’s owner, Ellis Short, and his board members are poised to dismiss him, as early as Monday.

Sunderland have won only four Premier League games all season and the owners see a little hope that Poyet can turn things around when other feasible replacements are available.

The chief executives of the club are in agreement with Sporting director, Lee Congerton that Poyet isn’t the right man to see out the campaign and a short term replacement will be sought before a long term replacement in the summer.

Sunderland are considering a move for West Ham’s Sam Allardyce should Poyet be sacked this week. Then again, why would Allardyce be willing to take this job when his West Ham are doing so well in the league
