James Rodriguez could leave Real Madrid – boost for Manchester United?

Oct 7, 2024 4:28 AM

James Rodriguez hasn’t quite enjoyed a good campaign so far for Real Madrid. They 24-year-old has four goals and six assists to his name this season in 14 games, but he has hardly impressed with his performances.

The Colombian joined Madrid in 2014 from Monaco after producing some fantastic performances in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He quickly became one of the key players for the side under then manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Rodriguez, however, reportedly didn’t enjoy a fruitful relationship with Rafael Benitez, who preferred Isco over him.

He was reportedly thought to be angling a move away from Santiago Bernabeu and was linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Rodriguez shares the same agent with Jose Mourinho, the former Chelsea manager, and the Portuguese, who is tipped to become the next United manager, could be willing to bring the Colombian to Old Trafford.

According to Catalan based newspaper Sport, Real Madrid are seriously giving considerations whether to continue with Rodriguez beyond the end of the season. His performance has dropped considerably and Madrid will be looking to sell him, should his performance do not improve in the next few months.

Rodriguez won’t come in cheap and interested clubs will have to pay around €80m to secure his signature. Manchester United could be in a good position to lure him away from Bernabeu, if and when Mourinho takes charge at the club in the summer.
