Joachim Low: Jamie Vardy is a spectacular player

Joachim Low: Jamie Vardy is a spectacular player

Nov 28, 2024 5:27 PM

Ahead of Saturday’s international friendly with England, Germany coach Joachim Low has hailed Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy as a “spectacular player”.

Vardy has enjoyed an unforgettable campaign for Leicester this season. The 29-year-old striker, who created a new record by scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games earlier this season, has scored 19 goals for the Foxes to help Leicester take a healthy five-point lead at the top of the table.

With skipper Wayne Rooney injured, Vardy is in line to pick up his fifth international cap, after he was included in Roy Hodgson’s squad ahead of the friendly meeting with the world champions at the Olympiastadion. Vardy will be looking to break his international duck for his country, should he get an opportunity on Saturday.

While English press have ushered heaps of praise on Vardy throughout the season, it seems like Low has been pretty impressed with the Leicester striker as well.

“We did watch him and he is a spectacular player,” he said as quoted by Sky Sports.

“A great performance, we did talk about him the last couple of days, not only him, but he is a player who is straightforward and is always looking to find the gap in the defence and get in behind the defence.

“That is where it hurts the most and I think that is one of his biggest qualities.”

Vardy’s excellent performance this season has led to top Premier League clubs vying for his signature, with Chelsea reportedly were willing to wrap up a deal for him with a mouth watering £30m offer during the January transfer window.

However, Vardy may have to remain happy with a role on the bench against the Germans. Hodgson will most likely start with Tottenham’s in-form striker Harry Kane. The Spurs striker has scored 21 goals this season, and the Englishman is all set to lead the line for the Three Lions in Berlin.

Vardy has been joined by his club team-mate Danny Drinkwater, who is set to make his debut either against Germany or in Tuesday’s Wembley clash with the Netherlands, in Hodgson’s England squad.
