The youngster made his first start in the league since Boxing Day defeat at the hands of Stoke City (his performance was miserable that day too) but endured a tough time against the Baggies as Rodgers took him off on the hour mark.

Shelvey received harsh criticisms for his lackluster performance and he reacted by posting a tweet aiming at those fans who abused him. He wrote:

“Love people giving me stick… When half of people on here haven’t got a clue what they’re on about. #welldone #keyboardwarriors.”

The 20-year-old, who has one England national cap under his belt vented his frustration last week and spoke about how he had been made scapegoat for Liverpool’s poor performance against Stoke and as a result of which didn’t make any appearance for the Reds following that match.

Shelvey should take a hard look at himself before making any such comments and this will only represent negative images of him before the fans and the manager. Or maybe he should take a leaf about of Daniel Agger’s book – the Dane showed great dignity by apologizing to the fans for his performances.

The Denmark captain also had a poor night and was hugely responsible for both the goals. However, unlike Shelvey he acknowledged the mistakes he made and thanked the fans for pointing out his error that let Gareth McAuley score West Brom’s opener. He tweeted:

I agree with most of you. My performance the last 10 minutes of yesterday’s game was NOT good enough. It’s as simple as that!!!!!

Possibly that’s why Agger is so loved and respected by the Anfield faithful. Shelvey needs to calm his temper down and concentrate on matters relating to football only. Steven Gerrard, who is now his would be neighbor, could help him doing that.
