Jose Mourinho hits back at Liverpool legends with amazing rant

Oct 30, 2024 3:27 PM

Jose Mourinho has continued the war of words between himself and the Sky Sports pundits, as he hit back at Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness in his press conference today. The Portuguese was in full flow as he launched a scathing attack on the Liverpool duo who criticised his side’s actions in the game against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

In that game, following a tackle by Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Oscar, the Chelsea players surrounded the referee in an attempt to get the Swede sent off, and succeeded as well. After the match, Carragher labelled the action of the players ‘disgraceful’. His colleague Souness followed suit and was equally scornful, calling the Blues conduct ‘pathetic’.

But Mourinho, never one to beat about the bush, hit back in his press conference today, stating that both Carragher and Souness seemed to have a memory problem.

Mourinho said:

“You know the world is a big strange. Maybe because of diet and maybe the quality of the products we are eating, but memories are getting shorter. Because, you know, when Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness speak about it, it’s because they are having a problem for sure. Jamie stopped playing a couple of years ago and, in two years, he has forgotten everything he did on the pitch. Mr Souness also, but he stopped playing a long time ago. I coached Benfica after he left there so I know a lot about him, so much about him. But I have had a certain kind of education, not just in football but in life, and I prefer to laugh. Envy is the biggest tribute that the shadows do to the man. It’s about life.”

Jose Mourinho in dynamite form. Strong and entertaining response on Souness and Carragher.

He was also defensive of his players, stating that Chelsea have been charged just once this season for failing to control its players. He also said that under such circumstances, if the club was fined, the players responsible would pay the amount.

The Blues only have the Premier League to look forward to now that their FA Cup and Champions League campaigns are over. They have a five-point lead at the top of the table over second-placed Manchester City, but need to be careful that they don’t hit a rough patch now.

Their manager, however, seems confident that his side can do it.

“A season with a Premier League title and the Capital One Cup is a brilliant season. the people who lost and are out of the Champions League are the same people who have been top of the Premier League from day one. The same people who won the League Cup. The same people who are going to win the Premier League. We are exactly the same people.”
