Kevin De Bruyne could move to Anderlecht in January to boost World Cup chances

One of the big problems of playing in a star studded squad is sometimes players don’t get enough chances to play regularly and during a World Cup year, it is all the more frustrating as they cannot show or prove their ability to their national team managers/coaches on a regular basis, jeopardizing often the chances of representing the nation.

Chelsea youngster Kevin De Bruyne is facing the more-or-less same problem. The 22-year-old is a highly talented attacking midfielder but he is struggling to find regular games in a star studded Blues squad under Jose Mourinho. He has made only 3 appearances in the Premier League and has been largely relegated to a peripheral role.

There were even talks about a possible rift between him and the Special One. In September, Jose Mourinho walked out of the press conference after barrage of questions hurled at him over his decision to drop Kevin De Bruyne from the Chelsea squad for the Champions League group game against Steaua Bucharest.

In October, De Bruyne denied such stories of rift and told the Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure: “I really don’t worry. You make it more of a problem than I do. Mourinho is the boss, he chooses who plays. We do not talk about it really. He tells me when I do something bad, but frankly I haven’t heard such negative comments.”

However, with limited opportunities coming his way, he could be willing to move elsewhere on a temporary basis where he would get regular chances and impress his national team boss, Marc Wilmots.

Belgian Club Anderlecht could open an opportunity for him. In a break-fast interview with Anderlecht manager Herman Van Holsbeeck to Het Laatste Nieuws, he said:

“Kevin could come to Anderlecht in January – there’s a big chance. It’s not an easy deal, but it is something we are investigating. The World Cup being next year makes this possible – he wants regular football so he makes the competition.”

Anderlecht have lost one of their star players, Matias Suarez through injury who will miss the rest of the season. Hence, they need a suitable replacement to fill that void and De Bruyne is a more than a capable replacement, he could ask for.

De Bruyne should accept such offers with glee while Chelsea boss would understand his current tension as well. So, a loan deal could be in place in January, should Anderlecht choose to make an offer.
