The La Liga season continues apace over the next few days, with the 35th round of fixtures featuring some crucial match-ups.

Atletico Madrid travelled to Barcelona on Saturday afternoon hoping to hang onto their place at the top of the La Liga table.

Diego Simeone’s side went into the game two points ahead of Barca and Real Madrid, and a goalless draw kept them at the top of the standings.

Madrid’s title hopes suffered a blow as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Sevilla.

Fernando put the visitors ahead in the first half, but Marco Asensio tied things up in the 67th minute.

Ivan Rakitic’s penalty restored Sevilla’s lead and they looked to be on their way to victory as the game headed into stoppage time.

However, a Diego Carlos own goal saved Madrid’s blushes to leave them two points behind Atletico with three matches to play.

Elsewhere this weekend, Real Sociedad, Cadiz, Getafe, Valencia, Celta Vigo and Real Betis recorded victories, while the games at Alaves and Athletic Bilbao were drawn.
