Liverpool 4-1 Portsmouth
15 March 2010
Liverpool would score three first half goals and cruise to a 4-1 victory at Anfield on Monday night.
Fernando Torres led the way with two goals including the first in the 26th minute. After the first goal, the match broke open for Liverpool would score two more goals within six minutes. Ryan Babel scored the second in the 28th minute and Alberto Aquilani scored his first goal in England in the 32nd minute.
It was a pathetic performance from Portsmouth who did not defend well and looked uninspired. The second half was more of the same and Torres added his second in the 77th minute to make it 4-0. Portsmouth did get some consolation in the 88th minute as Nadir Belhadj scored to make it 4-1.
The win puts Liverpool’s chances to finish 4th still alive and Portsmouth closer to guaranteed relegation.
