Liverpool and Manchester United have been encouraged in signing Xherdan Shaqiri after the winger admitted that he could leave Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
The Swiss international has made only 10 starts in the league for the German champions during the 2013-14 season. He is a talented winger and his lack of playing time has attracted interest from Brendan Rodgers’ side and their arch-rivals United.
Shaqiri admitted that he could leave the Bundesliga outfit if he is not assured his situation of playing regularly improve.
“It’s clear that I cannot continue like this. If nothing changes, I will have to make some changes myself,” Shaqiri said.
“I want to play in the important games as well and not just in the Bundesliga. I don’t want to go through another year like this.”
United have had a poor campaign and are not eligible to feature in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Liverpool will return to Europe’s best club competition next season.
The winger stressed the importance of featuring in the Champions League and has hinted that he could leave Bayern to make a switch to England.
“I only want to play for a major club. The Champions League is important to me. We will see what happens,” the winger said.
“England would be an option. If I were to leave Bayern, it will be for a foreign club. But it will have to be a club challenging for the title,” Shaqiri concluded.
United may need a lot of effort to convince the Bayern winger join the Old Trafford club. Meanwhile the Reds can tempt him to join them as they have Champions League action for the next season, which could possibly see them beat the Reds Devils in signing him in the coming transfer window.
