Liverpool closing in on deal for Fulham left back Konchesky

Dec 13, 2024 6:02 PM

Liverpool are nearing a deal for Fulham left back Paul Konchesky, according to Sky Sports.

Daniel Agger started at left back for Liverpool against Arsenal and Manchester City, while Fabio Aurelio started last week‘s Europa League win over Trabzonspor, but it appears that manager Roy Hodgson has continued the pursuit of reinforcements on the left.

There has been speculation during the summer heavily linking Konchesky with a reunion with his former manager at Fulham, but up to this point, only Birmingham City have made a concrete move for the 29-year-old.

However, Liverpool now look set to bolster their backline with the addition of the former Charlton and West Ham man, who has been at Fulham since the summer of 2007. In his three-plus seasons at Craven Cottage, Konchesky has been a fixture in the starting XI, making 97 Premier League starts and racking up more than a century of starts in all competitions.

Since making his debut for Charlton as a 16-year-old in August 1997, Konchesky has made more than 370 total appearances, which includes a loan spell at Tottenham in the first half of the 2003/04 season.

It is believed that Liverpool could pay up 3.5m pounds for Konchesky, who has twice been capped by England. If the deal is done, it could all but ensure that Emiliano Insua will be leaving Anfield before the end of the transfer window. Insua, who was Liverpool’s first-choice left back for the majority of last season, failed to agree personal terms with Fiorentina earlier this month, but he hasn’t appeared for Liverpool yet this season, and Konchesky’s impending arrival would seem to signal that his days at Anfield are numbered.
