Liverpool are among a number of top European clubs in pursuit of AS Monaco’s highly talented midfielder Thomas Lemar, according to reports in France.
According to French publication L’Equipe, Liverpool and Manchester City have contacted the player’s representatives, while there has been interest from Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid as well.
The German champions made an offer for the player in January and remain strong favourite to land the 20-year-old, who has scored five Ligue 1 goals and laid on a further three assists in 23 appearances this season.
Liverpool had previously shown an interest in the player before he joined Monaco from Caen, and the player’s versatility – ability to play in the no 10 and also on either flank – will appeal to the Reds manager, though Monaco are demanding a fee around £58m that took Anthony Martial to Manchester United last summer.
Upon his arrival at Merseyside, Klopp pledged to give chances to young players at the club, and by handing debuts to the likes of Sheyi Ojo and Connor Randall, his approach is very clear.
The Reds are also reportedly monitoring 17-year-old winger Jonathan Ikone, who is also wanted by Juventus and Manchester United this summer.
The highly talented youngster is capable of operating on either flank, and has been one of the top performers for PSG’s u19S this season. However, he may opt to move elsewhere in search of regular first team actions, and could leave the French giants on a free transfer at the end of the season.
There is also an apparent interest from Liverpool in PSG’s young left-back Ballo Fode Toure. According to Footmercato, a host of Premier League clubs including the likes of West Ham, Manchester City and Southampton are keeping a close eye on the 19-year-old who has yet to sign a professional contract with the French champions.
