Liverpool have been given a fresh hope in keeping Raheem Sterling beyond this summer after the winger’s agent confirmed no truth in the recent reports.

On Monday evening, reports started to surface that the 20-year-old will tell Brendan Rodgers to leave the club after the end of this season. The Reds have already handed him a contract worth £100,000-a-week, which is turned down by the player.

Sterling has two years left on his current deal and Liverpool manager earlier confirmed the contract talks are on hold until the season ends. His agent Aidy Ward claims the reports circulating are blown out of proportion and the decision over his future will be taken after holding talks with Rodgers and Liverpool later this week.

“The story has been blown somewhat out of proportion. Raheem and his representatives have a meeting scheduled with Liverpool later this week, and we will take proceedings from there,” Ward told Talksport.

Liverpool failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League after failing to finish in top four. This could be the decisive factor in keeping Sterling beyond the summer transfer window.

The Anfield club have been very certain they will not allow Sterling to leave. Manchester City have maintained their interest in the Englishman and could test Liverpool’s resolve in retaining the star winger.
