Liverpool striker Iago Aspas has revealed that is desperate to leave the club in the summer.
The 26 year old moved to Anfield from Spanish side Celta Vigo last summer for £7m but the Spaniard has failed to nail down a starting eleven spot in Brendan Rogers’ side.
‘I am not 20 years old anymore,’ Aspas told the Metro, ‘I can’t go on loan and explode.
‘I think the best would be to transfer to another club and that I find the best fit for myself and the club.’
Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League and much credit for that goes to the sensational strike partnership of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge up front.
Aspas has just featured 14 times for Liverpool this season and scored only once for the Reds in their 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup earlier this campaign.
However, Rodgers praised Aspas in a recent interview with the Liverpool Echo, “I’ve got the utmost respect for Iago and his professionalism. He keeps working, he has a great character and mentality. I really feel for him. It’s been so difficult for him. We will see where we’re at with him come the summer”
With few chances to break into the first team and limited opportunities at Anfield, Aspas is keen for a switch in the summer. The Spaniard was heard to be saying, ” I am not 20 years old anymore. I can’t go on loan and explode. I think the best would be to transfer to another club and that I find the best fit for myself and the club.”
Aspas was a prominent figure for his previous club Celta Vigo in the 2012-13 La Liga season, scoring 12 goals in 35 league games, but he has failed to make an impression since joining the Merseysiders, and looks certain to leave in the summer.
