Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reaped the rewards, so far, for fielding his trusted back four in most of the games this season. With Thomas Vermaelen almost certain to leave the club next summer, the only fly in the ointment remains for Wenger is the contract situation of star defender, Bacary Sagna.
With 22 league appearances this season, the 31-year-old defender has been one of the pillars of strength for this Arsenal side. But, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, rumours have surfaced about his future at the North London club.
Wenger has said many times that the club is working on giving him a new lucrative contract, but nothing is concrete at the moment.
According to reports, Inter Milan are showing keen interest in him and could table an offer for the Frenchman in the summer. There were also reports that Wenger could explore the opportunity of buying Seamus Coleman from Everton, should he fail to keep Sagna at the club.
Now, the ever reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, reports that fellow rivals Liverpool are also keen to add him to their squad next summer in the form of a free transfer.
Sagna has yet to consider the Nerazzurri’s offer but there could be a possibility of him staying in England and continue his career elsewhere, if he at all leaves Arsenal in the summer.
Although Liverpool have a policy of buying young players mainly but getting a player of Sagna’s caliber on free, would be tempting for any side. Further, by signing Kolo Toure last summer, Rodgers has remained true to his word that the club would buy any player, irrespective of his age, if he is quality enough.
