Liverpool open to sending Tiago Ilori out on loan, Reading interested

Nov 24, 2024 8:59 PM

Championship outfit Reading are looking to sign the out of favour Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori.

The Portuguese centre-back joined Liverpool from Sporting Lisbon in 2013 and has made just three senior appearances for the Reds. Ilori cost Liverpool around £7m and the Merseyside giants will be looking to recoup most of that if they were to sanction a move.

Guardian are reporting that Reading manager Jaap Stam is eyeing up a move for Ilori, but the deal would have to be a loan for now. The Championship outfit could make the move permanent at the end of this season. The report also adds that Liverpool are open to completing a deal for Ilori.

Considering the fact that Ilori is not a part of Klopp’s plans anymore, the loan move could be ideal for all parties. It could be a good opportunity for Liverpool to get Ilori playing again and preserve his value prior to a summer sale.

The former Sporting defender has had loan spells with Aston Villa, Bordeaux and Granada in the past. Once regarded as a top class talent, Ilori failed to impress Rodgers as well as Klopp.

Furthermore, now that Joe Gomez has recovered from his injury, there is no way Ilori could break into the first team even for the cup games. The Portuguese U-23 international needs to leave Anfield in order to resurrect his career and a move to the Championship could do him a world of good.
