The ‘forward / strike’ department is one area where Liverpool are stocked with enough talent and depth. Liverpool already have Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings, Divock Origi and Christian Benteke in their ranks but a new striker could still arrive at the club this summer.
Benteke has failed to impress Klopp and there is a possibility he could be sold this summer. Crystal Palace have offered around £25m but it was rejected immediately. The Reds are looking to recoup most of the £32.5m they paid for the Belgium international less than 12 months ago and Palace would have to pay around £30m plus add-ons for the 25-year-old if they’re serious about getting him.
If Liverpool can sell Benteke this summer, Jurgen Klopp may turn his attention towards signing a new striker and reports in France suggesting French striker Alexandre Lacazette could be a good option for the Reds.
Premier League giants Arsenal are heavily interested in signing the 25-year-old French striker, who missed out on a place in France’s Euro 2016 squad, and according to reports, Arsene Wenger has already met with the player’s representatives.
The Gunners have indicated they are willing to pay his £34m release clause to sign the Lyon striker. As of now, no bid has been lodged yet for the striker who has recently rejected a move to join West Ham United.
Lyon, who qualified for Champions League in 2016/17, are confident they can keep Lacazette, however, the player himself holds an ambition of playing in the Premier League.
According to an exclusive report from Le 10 Sport, Liverpool could make a move for the French striker, should they manage to sell Benteke.
Moving to other news, Liverpool’s parent company, Fenway Sports Group, have offered the current Reds manager Jürgen Klopp a contract extension at the club.
The German took the reigns at Anfield nine months ago but Liverpool owners so impressed with him that they want to tie him down for several more years.
Klopp’s current deal ends in 2018 but the owners want to back the former Borussia Dortmund manager to build a new dynasty at the club. He is already paid heavily by the club because of his status and previous achievements, so it won’t be an issue for either party to settle for a better deal.
