Liverpool are showing keen interest in Benfica’s Ola John, who is free to leave, but they are facing a tough competition from Premier League outfit Swansea City, reports the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old has failed to secure regular spot at the Estadio da Luz this season having featured seven times this season only.  Several European clubs like Ajax and AC Milan are also thought to be interested in the player.

Moving to other news, the Reds may miss out on long-term transfer target Martin Montoya of Barcelona. The Liverpool Echo reports that the young full-back was on Brendan Rodgers’ January radar, while managing director of the club, Ian Ayre flew to Spain to hold talks with the player’s representatives as well.

The youngster has mainly played a second fiddle to Dani Alves and there are suggestions that he might move abroad to gain regular first team actions. However, Montoya has admitted that he is not looking for a move as he is at the best club in the world and certainly there is no hurry for him to sign a new deal, as he is confident that negotiations are going on over a new contract.

In the same report, Neil Jones says that Liverpool remain keen to add a full-back in the summer and Dundee United youngster Andrew Robertson has been scouted by the Reds in recent weeks. The Reds have yet to table a formal offer for the 19-year-old, who is also targeted by Merseyside rivals Everton.
