Marco Reus’ contract extension with Borussia Dortmund surprised a lot of European giants who were poaching for his signature in the upcoming summer transfer window. A host of clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid were desperate to secure his services.
The 25 year old later put pen to paper which would now keep him at Dortmund till 2019. German outlet Bild have now revealed that Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal had tried to speak personally with Reus but failed in his efforts.
The report also states that PSG President Nasser Ghanim Al-Khelaïfi had tried to fight stubbornly for Reus and the Qatari businessman had in fact offered Reus a private jet ride to Paris to hold talks with him. However his attempts also proved futile.
Reus who signed the contract extension with Dortmund once again showed that he will remain loyal to the club where he will now earn €9m a year. Dortmund have endured a disastrous league campaign this season and currently 15th in the table, a place above the dreaded relegation places.
They were rock bottom recently but two consecutive could finally mark a resurgence for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
