Luis Suarez has grabbed the headlines once again. The Liverpool superstar destroyed England single handedly with a virtuoso performance (two wonderful goals) and kept the hopes alive for Uruguay to qualify to the next round.
At the same time, he is dragged into a transfer whirligig, which as we reckon is basically an attempt from the Spanish press to lure him away from Liverpool. Crux of the matter, Barcelona have earmarked Suarez as their main target for next season and will move heaven and earth to land him at the Nou Camp.
Catalan press believes that Suarez has a release clause of €85m, but they can get him for around €65m or so. Furthermore, they are willing to include Alexis Sanchez to sweeten the deal.
Their conviction stems out from the fact that Suarez has friends and families settled in Barcelona, while the player himself would be keen to wear the Blaugrana jersey.
Real Madrid are also thought to be interested in Suarez but president Florentino Perez is stuck in a dilemma whether to pay such ridiculous dosh on a single player or stick with French striker Karim Benzema and hand him a new contract extension.
Suarez’s Uruguayan team-mate and former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan however believes that the Uruguayan would be a perfect fit for Real Madrid. When asked whether Suarez would fit in with Bale and Ronaldo in Ancelotti’s style, he said:
“Yes, of course, he’s a player who’s in a great moment physically and football-wise and it’d be great for him to play at Real Madrid.”
Well, Forlan is absolutely entitled to his own opinions, but both Real Madrid or Barcelona will have to pay huge money to force Liverpool in entering into any sort of negotiation. The question is: will they pay over €90m for Suarez
